Another Gang Related Shooting In Hawkes Bay

"lock your f***ing doors, get your kids, get everybody inside"
"A Hawkes Bay man told last night of his desperate bid to stop his best mate from getting involved in an armed confrontation that left a neighbour dead and the victim's 8-year-old son injured....

Late last night, armed police arrested Wilson Apatu, 39, whom they had been hunting since the killing about 2.30pm in the settlement of Waikoau, near Tutira on the Napier-to-Wairoa road...."
The dead man was later named as Layden Thomas Rameka, 32 from Waikoau. His young son Zepplen-Solly Rameka was shot in the arm and is said to be in a comfortable condition in Hawke's Bay Hospital.
"An anonymous resident told Radio New Zealand he had spoken to Apatu minutes before the shooting.

"He got called [expletive] and he went 'bro, I can't handle this', I went `what are you on about?'. So he hung up the phone. "So I rung the people (the victim's neighbours) and warned them, says 'lock your f***ing doors, get your kids, get everybody inside' and they thought I was joking, they didn't heed my warning."

The resident said he held the victim's hand as he died.

It was reported that Mr Rameka was a patched Mongrel Mob member who had recently moved back to the area."
Apatu "wanted to go out in a hail of bullets"
"Apatu fled the scene in his own vehicle before crashing it.

Waikoau Road farmer Rex Bullock was outside his home when the car crashed and had expected its occupant to be dead.

"He flipped the car over...and squashed the roof, almost to the top of the seat," he told Radio New Zealand.

"When I went out to see if there was a dead body in it or not he was climbing out the other side, standing up [with] a cut on the top of his head."

Apatu then allegedly held up a couple at gunpoint and stole their vehicle. The couple were unharmed.

A source told NZPA that Apatu had had his firearms license revoked and had told people he wanted to "go out in a hail of bullets".

Apatu was arrested about 11.30pm at a relative's house in Clive, 10km south of Napier, after the relative contacted police"

Gang violence out of control in New Zealand

Three Violent Deaths On The Same Christchurch Street In Four Months

Who'd live in Christchurch, what a week it's been. Residents of Olliviers Rd, Phillipstown are stunned after the third violent death in as little as four months and the armed offenders squad had to deal with a man supposedly armed with a pistol.

Andre James Delamare, 41, died on the way to hospital after being stabbed at around 6.40pm on Tuesday night in Olliviers Road . He was found only 200 metres from his own home.

In May Tala Seleni, 55, and Melissa Nina Adcock, 32, were found dead in their council flat on the same street

For more about the story see: here

Mr Delamare's death is thought to be the 46th such death this year in New Zealand.

Christchurch was also the scene of an Armed Offenders call out on Wednesday when they closed off Voss Street and Quinns Road to round up a man for 13 different offenses including alleged assaults, kidnapping and possession of a pistol. (The Press)

Palmerston North Hammer Attack On Teenager Blake Coleman

19 year old Blake Coleman (photo Manawatu Standard)

Source Stuff.co.nz
"The phrase "hitting the town to get hammered" has taken on a whole new meaning for a Palmerston North teenager.

When Blake Coleman, 19, questioned the ages of a group of young teenagers drinking Woodstocks outside a city bar about midnight on Friday, he was met with an angry response.

Thinking it not worth the hassle, Mr Coleman threw his hands in the air, turned his back and walked away with his friends.

Seconds later, he turned his head just as someone approached him from behind and swung a hammer at his face. The blow landed with such force the hammer flew out of the attacker's hands and landed in a gutter nearby, Mr Coleman said.

"We got out of there pretty quick in case they had other weapons ... If one was carrying a hammer then they could have had knives too. (see 'more teens wielding knives')

"My hands were covered in blood and it lined the street from High Flyers to ANZ."

Mr Coleman and his friends were assisted by a passing police paddy wagon and eventually taken to Palmerston North Hospital by ambulance.

He was shocked by the assault and would "definitely have a second think" about going to town again, he said. He received nine stitches to his wound thought to be from the claw end of the hammer a tetanus injection and at least a week off work.

Mr Coleman's mother, Carol Coleman, wanted to raise public awareness about the dangers of walking around The Square at night......."

A 15 year old male was later arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. More here: Teen attacked with hammer

Ding Dong Dang Dairy Robbed On North Shore

Stuff.co.nz

"Police are hunting for a man who robbed the Ding Dong Dang Dairy at knife point on Auckland’s North Shore yesterday.

Detective Shane Page of North Shore police said the masked man entered the dairy around 12.30 yesterday and used a large knife to threaten the owner and escape with the tobacco.

“The dairy owners were shocked by the incident but otherwise are unharmed,” he said.

Police said he fled through Monarch Park and through Monarch and Eban avenues.

The man left behind a knife, leather jacket and comic patched hoodie, police said.

He is described as Caucasian and reasonably tall with a slim build.

He was wearing sunglasses, red coloured cloth or bandana, a dark brown jacket, a hoodie and light blue jeans."
